The short version
- If you live in Greenwich and use the app to look things up, there's no account and no login.
- Your postcode is stored on your phone only. We never receive it.

- If you list a business, we store the details you give us so we can check and publish your listing. You can ask us to change or remove it at any time.
- Purchases of My Greenwich+ are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details.
This policy explains what happens to information when you use the My Greenwich iOS app. It is written to meet the requirements of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.

01Who we are
My Greenwich is made by SVPPLY&.CO LIMITED, a private limited company registered in England and Wales, company number 11377371. For the purposes of data protection law, SVPPLY&.CO LIMITED is the data controller.
Registered office:
3rd Floor Great Titchfield House, 14–18 Great Titchfield Street,
London W1W 8BD, United Kingdom.
My Greenwich is independent. It is not run by the Royal Borough of Greenwich, and the council does not receive any information from the app.
02If you use the app to look things up
Your postcode
When you enter a postcode, the app sends it to a postcode lookup service to check it is in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and to find your ward and parliamentary constituency.
We never receive your postcode. It goes directly from your phone to the lookup service, and the result comes straight back to your phone.
The app then asks our database for the councillors in your ward, using the ward's official code (for example, a code meaning "Plumstead and Glyndon"). It does not send your postcode to our database. It asks Parliament's public API who the MP is for your constituency.
Your postcode is stored on your phone only, so you don't have to type it in every time. You can clear it by changing it or deleting the app.
A full UK postcode can identify a small number of households, so we treat it as personal data even though we never hold it.
Finding businesses near you
Nearby businesses are sorted using the location of your postcode. That sorting happens on your phone. The app does not ask for your device's location.
Your device's internet address
When the app connects to the services listed in section 6, those services can see your device's IP address, in the same way any website you visit can. Our database host keeps routine technical logs, which can include IP addresses, for a short period for security and to keep the service running. We do not use them to identify or profile anyone.
03If you list a business
When you use Add your business, we collect what you type into the form:
- the business name, category and description
- the business postcode, which we turn into a map position and ward
- a website, phone number and email address, if you give them
- the date and time you agreed to the listing terms
Every submission is held as pending and checked by hand before it appears in the app. If it is approved, the name, category, description, location, website and phone number are shown publicly in the app. Your email address is not shown publicly. We use it only to contact you about your listing.
If you are a sole trader or work from home, the details you give may be about you personally, not just your business. Your map position comes from the postcode you enter, so only give a home postcode, home phone number or personal website if you are happy for them to appear in the app.
We do not sell, rent or share listing details with anyone else, and we do not use them for marketing other than to tell you about your own listing.
04If you buy My Greenwich+
My Greenwich+ adds a photo and a Featured slot to an approved business listing for 12 months. It is bought through the App Store and does not renew automatically.
The purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your name, payment card or billing address. We receive a confirmation that a purchase exists, and we link it to your listing so the extra features can be switched on.
If you add a photo, it is stored privately and is only shown in the app once your listing is approved and My Greenwich+ is active. Please only upload a photo you have the right to use, and avoid photos where people can be identified unless they have agreed.
05What the app does not do
The app contains no analytics, no third-party crash reporting, and no advertising software. There is nothing in it that watches what you do.
If you have turned on Apple's own crash and analytics sharing in your device settings, Apple may send us anonymised crash reports through App Store Connect. These tell us that something failed and where in the code, not who you are or what you were looking at. You can turn this off at any time in Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements.
- There is no resident account, sign-up or login.
- We do not ask residents for a name, email address or phone number.
- We do not use advertising or advertising identifiers.
- We do not sell or share information with data brokers.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not build a profile of you or make automated decisions about you.
06Services the app connects to
| Service | What it is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| postcodes.io | Your postcode, your IP address | To check the postcode is in Greenwich and find your ward and constituency |
| Supabase (our database host) | Your ward code and IP address. For businesses, the listing details and any photo | To show councillors and listings, and to store business submissions |
| UK Parliament Members API | Your constituency, your IP address | To find your MP |
| Apple (App Store) | Purchase information, handled by Apple | To process and restore My Greenwich+ purchases |
Supabase acts as our processor, under a data processing agreement. postcodes.io, UK Parliament and Apple are independent services with their own privacy policies.
Information about councillors and MPs shown in the app is already public. Councillor details come from the Royal Borough of Greenwich and are used under the Open Government Licence v3.0. MP details come from UK Parliament under the Open Parliament Licence v3.0.
07Why we are allowed to do this
Under the UK GDPR we need a lawful basis for handling personal data.
- Looking up your postcode
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)). You have asked who represents you, and looking up your postcode is the only way to answer that. We use the minimum needed and keep none of it.
- Business listings
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)), given when you tick the box on the form. You can withdraw it at any time by asking us to remove your listing.
- My Greenwich+
- Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)).
08How long anything is kept
- Your postcode
- On your phone only, until you change it or delete the app. Never held by us.
- Information shown in the app
- Held temporarily on your phone so the app works while you use it. Removed when you delete the app.
- Approved business listings
- For as long as the listing is live. Deleted within 30 days of you asking us to remove it, or of us finding the business has closed.
- Rejected or withdrawn submissions
- Deleted within 30 days.
- My Greenwich+ photos
- Removed from the app when Plus ends, and deleted within 30 days unless you renew.
- Purchase records
- Held by Apple under Apple's own rules. We keep a record that Plus was bought for a listing for as long as we need it for our accounts, normally six years.
09Where information is stored
Business listings and photos are stored with Supabase. Where any of this is processed outside the UK, it is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK's adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Addendum.
10Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how we use it, to restrict its use, and to withdraw consent.
If you only use the app to look things up, we hold no personal data about you, so there is usually nothing for us to give you or delete. If you contact us we will tell you that plainly.
If you have listed a business, email us from the address you listed with and we will send you what we hold, correct it, or remove it. We will reply within one month.
11How to complain
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to complain to us directly. Email contact@mygreenwich.uk with "Data protection complaint" in the subject line. Tell us what happened and what you would like us to do.
We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and tell you the outcome of our investigation.
If you are not satisfied with our response, or you would rather go straight to the regulator, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or by calling their helpline on 0303 123 1113. Complaining to the ICO costs nothing.
12Children
My Greenwich is a general audience app about public information. It is not directed at children, and it does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Business listings must be submitted by an adult. The app has no social features and no way for anyone to message anyone else through it.
13Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted in the App Store release notes, and we will email listed businesses if a change affects them.
